Description: This project addresses the challenges that GenAI poses to conventional writing assessments and explores the opportunity GenAI provides in creating new ways to of assessing students and enhancing learning experiences. The project will develop an assessment design module for undergraduate English and Chinese course to support course developers to conceive of emerging competencies to assess to ensure validity admits AI, to leverage the opportunities GenAI provides in developing student-centered assessments that address interdisciplinary, professional and career needs, and to develop a sample module on GenAI literacy that develops students higher-order writing and critical thinking skills. The outcomes of this project include redesigned assessments that effectively integrate AI use, recommendations for competencies to assess in writing, and guidelines on using Gen-AI for student-centered assessments.
