Enhancing student learning with an intuitive Learning Management System

Hey, did you know that HKUST uses Canvas as our Learning Management System? If you want to become a Canvas pro before you start teaching here, we have got you covered!

We offer a series of four workshops to equip you with all the skills and knowledge you need to rock Canvas like a pro and enhance your students' learning experience.

  • Canvas Basics | familiarizing yourself with the key features of Canvas to get started
  • Assessments & Grading | delving deep into the setup of assignments, discussions, and quizzes to support different assessment strategies
  • Turnitin Assignments | setting up assignments for originality checks and interpreting the Turnitin reports
  • Student Group Work | creating virtual collaboration spaces for students and managing group work efficiently

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • recall the key features and interface of Canvas
  • modify user account notifications settings
  • set up a course site and navigation with required tools
  • create and manage course content
  • manage course participants
  • monitor students' learning progress

At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • create and set up various types of assessments
  • set up quizzes to support different assessment strategies
  • analyze students’ responses on quizzes
  • grade assessments with different tools and techniques
  • use assignment groups to set up the weighting of different assessment items

  • set up real-time collaborative sessions using the web conference tool BigBlueButton

You can join in from the comfort of your own place as the workshops will be delivered via Zoom! Once you've registered, a confirmation email with the Zoom link will be sent your way. It's that simple!

Corresponding course sites will be created on Canvas before the term begins once your course has been confirmed and submitted to the ARO. But, if you're eager to get started, you can sign up here and have your course site created earlier!

Just to let you know, new Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) will receive training on Canvas Basics through PDEV6800Z. Existing GTAs can register for the workshops by sending an email to taprog@ust.hk.
