Learning with videos: Design principles for creating educational video
Start Date

Today, our students no longer rely only on lecture-notes and textbooks to access information and study. They watch videos to learn how to use software, how to solve mathematical equations, how to operate machines, and how to code. Thanks to platforms such as YouTube and Youku, educational content is created and delivered by anybody with knowledge to share and a camera.

Creating your own video content has never been easier, however, the technology is not everything. For educational videos to engage the learner, technical skills have to be coupled with sound pedagogical and instructional principles. This seminar aims to bring you just that – design principles and tips on creating your own educational videos, as well as examples of activities that can engage the learners with your video content.

In this seminar, Maya has shared some of the latest recommendations based in research and her experience of providing instructional-design support for UST courses that use video to deliver content. Templates, checklists and additional resources have also been provided to help you get started.

Seminar Objectives

By the end of this seminar you will be able to:

  • identify good pedagogical practices for the creation of educational video
  • outline the basic workflow of the video creation process
  • evaluate available technologies for video/audio recording
